At PFC we consider all physiological and psychological aspects of anorexia and its disordered eating patterns. After detailed evaluation, weekly food programs are initiated and appropriate psychological support and strategies are established.

Bulimia

Our disorder bulimic concerns are built around issues of control, self- loathing, and physique dysmorphia. Food patterns are metabolically established to support a rebalancing of appetite, cravings, fatigue, and digestion.

Chronic Fatigue

Diabetes

How It Works

Schedule an initial consultation
Prior to your initial consultation you will need you to fill out an Initial Patient Packet click here, have a recent lipid profile blood panel from your doctor (cholesterol screening) or click here to fill out our metabolic typing questionnaire. We will then be able to ascertain your metabolic type just by filling in the questionnaire. However, if you are within one or two points of another metabolic type, it would be a good idea to get your blood work done. If your doctor has taken your lipid profile within the last year, you can use those values. If your weight and health have changed significantly since the last time you had this test done, you may wish to get another one, because one of the joys of our metabolic food program is watching your cholesterol and triglyceride levels drop dramatically. If you do not have a physician to order the panel from the lab you can have your blood work done for a minimal cost at your local CVS MinuteClinic or Wallgreens Heathcare Clinic without an appointment.

After your blood work is done and or your questionnaire is filled out you'll be set for your first appointment! Prior to the communication whether it be a phone call, Skype or FaceTime please email us all your completed paperwork as well as labs if you have them.

As for your body fat assessment. You have several different options.

How Your Clothes Fit
Obviously not the most accurate method but definitely the most convenient. If you have a pair of pants, shirt or dress that feels tight you can use it to roughly gauge your body composition.

If your exercise and nutrition regimen causes your clothes to loosen up, it is a good sign you are losing body fat.

Body Circumference Measurements
A form of Anthropometric measurement, body circumferences can be used in formulas to estimate percent body fat. Equations which you can plug in your circumferences for a body fat estimation are all based on a statistical model. You will measure your height, hips waist and weight.

Skinfold Analysis- OUR METHOD
Skinfold analysis has long been the most common and popular method for measuring body fat. Multiple site skinfold analysis is usually taken by a practitioner. Most personal trainers are familiar and experienced with taking skinfold measurements, please ask where you can get this analysis done locally. The accuracy of skinfold measurement has usually been reported to be within 1-2% of the clinical standard (hydrostatic weighing.) The accuracy depends on the test subject and the practitioner's skills and experience. If you do decided to get your Body Fat tested in this manner please make sure you go to someone experienced so you get an accurate measurement.

Dr. Philip Goglia
President & Founder

Dr. Philip Goglia is the founder of Performance Fitness Concepts, one of the most elite performance nutrition and rejuvenative health and wellness clinics in the United States. He has been a certified nutritionist for over 30 years and has been recognized as the recipient for the 2009 and 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Best of Santa Monica Award in the Dietician category by the US Commerce Association. Most recently he was awarded the 2013 "Deborah Constance Children's Inspiration" award for his commitment to health and wellness mentoring at the inner city charitable foundation "A Place Called Home."

Performance Nutrition Specialist

Kevin Libby brings an extensive background in nutrition, stemming from being a collegiate wrestler & national level bodybuilder. Kevin implemented his nutritional skills as a personal trainer in Chicago where he had tremendous success working with countless athletes all over the Midwest.

In an effort to further his success and expand, he finally moved out west to Los Angeles where he was introduced to Dr. Philip Goglia. Philip instantly recognized Kevin's depth of nutritional knowledge and offered to mentor him into the world of metabolic typing. Kevin now acts as an extension of Dr. Goglia as a nutritional associate and part of the Performance Fitness Concepts Team.

Dr. Rand McClain, D.O.
Medical Director

Dr. McClain trained at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine Residency Program and has worked with some of the original and premier innovators in Sports, Rejuvenation, Cosmetic and Family Medicine. Dr. McClain is a former professional athlete who continues to participate competitively and, like Dr. Goglia, also practices what he preaches. His work is published in peer-reviewed and popular journals and he enjoys sharing and participating in the beneficial changes he helps create in people's lives. Dr. McClain has dedicated over 30 years of his personal and professional life to studying nutrition, exercise, herbs and supplements and is also a Master of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Orthopedic Surgeon

Ronald S. Kvitne is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 27 years of experience. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Northwestern University Medical center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Kvitne is a well-recognized expert in the field of sports medicine, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of shoulder, elbow and knee disorders and injuries.

Dr. Kvitne has served as the Team Physician for Los Angeles Galaxy professional soccer team, and is the Medical Director and Team Physician for the Los Angeles Kings NHL hockey team and is a consultant for UFC Mixed Martial Arts.

Dr. Jessica Wu
Dermatologist

Dr Jessica Wu is a board-certified dermatologist in Los Angeles, California. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center. In addition to her thriving private practice, Dr Wu is Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at USC, where she volunteers her time to teach medical students and residents. She frequently lectures at national and international medical conferences, and has conducted several research studies of cosmetic products and devices. She was an investigator in the clinical trials that led to FDA approval of Juvederm wrinkle filler and Latisse.

Coach Gerry Rodrigues started swimming in 1970 in Trinidad where he swam for the Caribbean island’s national team. His ability and love of the sport brought him to Mission Viejo in 1980 and earned him a scholarship to Pepperdine.

Gerry started the Malibu Masters swim club, headed-up Southern California Aquatics, began the first Masters club at The Sports Club LA, founded Tower26 and ran the UCLA Masters swim program. Gerry has been the recipient of the US Masters Coach of the Year and Southern Pacific Masters Coach of the Year honors.
